NEW PLACE , SAME FOOD !!!
Updated: Not anymore in Plaza de los Naranjos, but still in Marbella.
In the Plaza de Los Naranjos, in the old town of Marbella, it is usual to find tourist or traditional food restaurants, but now we have a new place to know, open only in summer season worth a visit. KAVA Marbella, a restaurant with a menu that is not indifferent to anyone who tastes it.
I had heard about Fernando Alcala and his restaurant KAVA. A young lawyer who had hung the robe and had changed his life between offices and courts by the apron and the kitchen. I wanted to know him and try his food.
The restaurant is on the square that bears the name of his grandfather, Fernando Alcala, who was the first chronicler of Marbella and indeed the building where KAVA is located, is part of the family house, the old stables were there, KAVA inside is very cool.
Red shrimp ceviche with tiger’s milk, lime and green apple … Awesome !! The explosion of flavors in mouth is indescribable, all flavors are strong, but still you can feel the nuances of the different ingredients. I strongly recommend it.
I’m not a big fan of Dim Sum, Fernando is, always has any on the menu. It was good, it was duck with beetroot and Jerusalem artichoke. As I said, I’m not a fan of this Chinese invention. Although even weeks later, i can remember the delicious artichoke taste.
I tried a piece of meat that tasted great, Tapilla cow with gurumelos. The texture of the meat reminded me of the kalua pork from luaus in Hawaii. Indeed, the meat had been brewing for 72 hours in the oven and the crumble was dried yogurt baked in the oven, yummy !! All on a background of red wine, beet and carrot. Just try it!
The taimenquín is based on a plate of traditional Andalusian cuisine (mostly for kids), with a Thai twist, transforming the flamenquin of my childhood, in a fun and cool dish, with a delicious taste. (Pork inside!!)
When i believed that all my discoveries of the night had ended …. they brought us the dessert and a new combination of flavors unexpected, yogurt cream on rhubarb compote and ginger. Sweetened with honey emulsion, avocado and basil oil. I had to write down every ingredient, hard to remember everything , but, I can not describe the experience , simply spectacular.
Having known Fernando after trying his creations is an absolute shock. Having tasted his dishes, so special, with those flavors so intense, with such a personality and then you meet a young man of 26 years old, with such shyness that makes him blush when you make a compliment about his dishes. He just opened the restaurant several weeks ago after having spent a year with Arzak, one of the best chefs in Spain.
He enjoys everything he does and you can feel it, he makes such strange and exquisite combinations that you will remember a KAVA experience for a while. As funny as intense and maybe a little addictive, I can not stop recommending the restaurant to anyone who asks me where to go for dinner when in Marbella.
And you, have you been to KAVA Marbella?
