My first visit to Glotón was last year, in its first stage, I found it a nice restaurant, but it really has been this month, after my last visit to try their new menu when it has caught my attention.
It is located in the Avenida del Mediterraneo of San Pedro Alcántara, you can walk there from the San Pedro Boulevard. In that part of the street where several restaurants are concentrated. Well, at the corner of the second block you can find Gloton. The terrace can be seen in the distance, tables are full summer and winter. In winter they close the terrace and it is heated, so do not worry about outside temperature at night.
Prices have dropped significantly, now you can dine for less than 50 euros per person, it is the same restaurant, the same decoration, same careful and leisurely service, ideal to enjoy a leisurely dinner, but, with a new menu that conserves its risky fusion spirit of flavors and ingredients and as always it surprises everyone who try it.
They have changed the chef and the menu. In fact they now offer two different menus. One is the menu itself of the restaurant, with dishes that already represent their culinary identity, such as the baked eggplant marinade in miso, they have changed the presentation but the good taste remains and my favorite dish in this restaurant, the vegetable lasagna, sooo good!!
And a second more innovative and seasonal menu, they change it every week, which includes the Chef’s Suggestions. In this one, you can find many different options: noodles, a salmon tartar, Iberian ham (jamon), even dishes that I normally do not usually order, but I have to say that the “Deer with caramelized pears and crunchy sweet potato “or the” Wild Rabbit with honey and cinnamon ” were very nice.
The sauces deserve an special mention, all of the sauces i tried were quite elaborated and paired very well with their dishes.
One of the great novelties in this “Suggestions of the Chef” menu, are the “Gloton Style” dishes, that, honoring the name of the restaurant, which means Glutton-great eater, I recommend only if you are really hungry. For those who are hungry or great eaters, go as entree for the “Country Cream Soup” Estilo Glotón, served inside a whole rustic bread and as a main dish go for the “Hamburguesa Estilo Glotón” 500 grams (1 pound )of hamburger. The dessert I leave to your choice, because I would take an infusion, a digestive one.
It was my first night trying the new Gloton, and I wanted to try different options of both menus, so I left the Gloton Style Hamburger for another day, but … I had to try the “Country Cream Soup , Gloton Style” served on a rustic bread pot. A cream is always a good option for dinner, something nice and light i thought. Ha ha ha … When they bring it to the table, you are transported to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, I confess that I changed my face imagining a Californian Clam Chowder, but no, what i had a big surprise when i discover that Country Cream Soup, Gloton Style, is a huge Sopa Castellana, a typical Spanish soup, with garlic, egg and paprika, that will delight more than one on cold nights.
I’m not a really sweet tooth person, so I went to Glotón with a chocolate lover, someone who would have no problem in trying all kinds of sweets after the dinner. We ordered the “Cheese cake with red fruits on quince jam and anise” and the “Coulant of chocolate and orange”. We tried the two desserts and the coolant won by far !!
The Chef’s suggestions also recommend gluten-free desserts, this week they offered Banoffee Pie with red fruit jelly, we did not try it, but it sounds delicious, don´t you think?
The wine list is extensive, the vast majority of wines are Spanish and if you feel curious about any of the appellations of origin , they offer wine by the glass of most of them.
The service is very friendly, they speak besides Spanish and English, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, … when you have an outside visit you know where to take them !!
It is a good option for dinners of friends, family, etc, in case some can not finish the plate style / size Wolverine, there will always be someone who will “help” to finish it.
